Fixed 12-month membership year (not rolling): status lasts 12 months from attainment; failing to requalify drops you one tier and resets Tier Points. The Silver→Gold carry-over question is SETTLED (30 Aug 2026, four independent readings of virginatlantic.com and the full Flying Club T&Cs): the 400 Tier Points that earned Silver DO count toward Gold's 1,000 — the thresholds are stated as absolute totals ('At 1,000 Tier Points, you'll reach Gold'), the only published reset trigger is failing to requalify, the T&Cs say tiers are reached by 'accumulating' Tier Points, and Virgin's own worked example (two Upper Class returns = 800 TP reaching Gold from Silver) is arithmetically impossible without carry-over. Reward Flights also earn Tier Points. Own-metal Tier Points are BANDED, not flat — Virgin publishes two columns, under 2,000 miles and 2,000 miles and over, and the figures shown here until 31 Aug 2026 were the long-haul column alone (so short Virgin sectors had been over-credited, Upper Class at 200 where the published figure is 40). Per segment, carrying the discounted rows a reward or cheap ticket actually books into: Upper Class 40/200 (J, C, D, I) but discounted Upper Class 20/100 (Z); Premium 20/100 (W, S) but discounted Premium 20/50 (H, K); Economy 10/50 (V, Y, B, R, L, U, M) and deep-discount economy 5/25 (O, N, X, Q, E, T). Booking classes G, P and A sit outside that table — Virgin awards them only on full-points Reward Flights and companion bookings — so they keep their single published figures (G 100, P 50, A 25) and their banding is unknown. TWO VIRGIN PAGES DISAGREE ON THE SHAPE OF THAT TABLE, and the disagreement is live: the reference carousel inside Virgin's own earning tables at virginatlantic.com/flying-club/airline-partners/korean-air and /air-france prints the two distance columns encoded here (a client-rendered carousel, read in the browser on 31 Aug 2026; the same page's server-rendered Korean Air table is banded the same way and was read independently by curl on 4 Sep 2026), while virginatlantic.com/flying-club/membership-tiers prints ONE column with no distance banding at all — Upper Class 200 (J, C, D and I) or 100 (Z and G); Premium 100 (W and S) or 50 (H, K and P); Economy Delight 50 (V); Economy Classic 50 (L, U, M, Y, B and R) or 25 (E, Q, X, N, O and A); Economy Light 25 (T). Those flat figures are exactly the 2,000-miles-and-over column of the banded table — including G, P and A, which that page does file, alongside the discounted rows of Upper Class, Premium and Economy Classic at the same 100 / 50 / 25 held here — so the two pages agree on every long sector and differ only on short ones. This site follows the partner-page carousel, because the banded reading is the conservative one and the error it replaced ran the other way (short sectors were over-credited at the long-haul rate until 31 August 2026). A short-haul Virgin Atlantic figure here should therefore be read with that caveat: Virgin publishes a higher number for the same sector on its membership-tiers page, and has not reconciled the two. Published exclusions: free and reduced-rate tickets, airport upgrades, Plusgrade bids, trade and industry fares and charters earn no Tier Points at all. Lifetime Gold is a separate route — 10 consecutive Gold years plus 7,500 Tier Points earned on flights both operated AND marketed by Virgin Atlantic — and is disclosed rather than modelled. Partner flights earn per-partner published tables — including Virgin Australia, where Tier Points are keyed on CABIN and distance only (Business 30/75, Economy 10/25 under and over 2,000 miles), so a deep-discount economy letter earns the full Economy value; VA's Premium cabin has no published Tier Points row and shows an unknown rate rather than a guess. Korean Air was added on 31 Aug 2026 (First 40/100, Business 30/75, Premium 20/50, Economy 10/25 across the same two bands), and the Air France letters that Virgin's page files in both a cabin card and a catch-all economy list are resolved in favour of the cabin card — so P and F earn La Première rates on Air France, not economy.
