Gold confers Star Alliance Gold — the lowest tier in this programme with alliance-wide lounge access. Alliance mapping last verified 4 August 2026. Conditions beyond the threshold: Minimum Air India / Air India Express component: 9,000 of the 30,000 Tier Points.; Rolling 365-day qualification window.. Compare lounge access across programmes →
Requirements beyond the threshold
- Silver — At least 4,500 Tier Points on Air India or Air India Express.
- Gold — At least 9,000 Tier Points on Air India or Air India Express.
- Platinum — At least 13,500 Tier Points on Air India or Air India Express.
These apply in addition to the points figure, so reaching the number alone does not confer the tier.
Rolling 365-day window; qualification and retention thresholds are identical. Each tier requires a 30% Air India / Air India Express component (Silver 4,500 / Gold 9,000 / Platinum 13,500 TP). Flight alternative: 20/45/60 flights with minimum 4/8/12 on Air India. Gold (not just Platinum) grants Star Alliance Gold. Own-metal Tier Points are spend-based at a flat 6 per INR 100 at EVERY tier — the ladder accelerates only the award currency (Maharaja Points, 6/8/9/10 per INR 100 by tier) — and Air India excludes taxes and fees from the base (base fare + fuel surcharge on Air India; on Air India Express the FAQ states base fare ONLY, though the T&Cs' generic definition sweeps IX into base+YQ — the FAQ's twice-stated carve-out is applied here and the contradiction is recorded). Air India Express earns the same flat 6 Tier Points per INR 100 for travel from 22 May 2026, in every channel and at every tier, and counts toward the own-metal component. Partner Tier Points are published as a rule rather than a table: 1 Tier Point for every 2 Maharaja Points accrued on Star Alliance partners. Its 26 partner tables are Maharaja (award) Points, and every partner figure here is one of those halved. Unlisted booking classes earn nothing — the chart is exhaustive by its own statement — and SAS earns nothing at all since leaving Star Alliance in August 2024. Three partners are deliberately absent: Air China, because Air India prints Air New Zealand’s row under it word for word; Shenzhen and ITA, because their columns are shifted a place left so business letters appear under First. Those three show an unknown rate rather than a misread one. Verified against airindia.com, Aug 2026.
